Pulses

The term “pulse” refers to the dried seed. Pulses are a subgroup of the legume family. Dried beans, lentils and peas are the most commonly known and consumed types of pulses. Pulses come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and there are hundreds of varieties grown throughout the world. Pulses are healthy, nutritious, and contains high levels of protein and essential nutrients such as fibre, folate, calcium, iron, and vitamin C. The United Nations designated 2016 the International Year of Pulses in recognition of this critical, yet it is often overlooked crop.

Whole Tur (CAJANUS CAJAN)

Pigeon pea is one of the most common tropical and subtropical legumes cultivated for its edible seeds. Cajanuscajan has many names like; pigeon pea, red gram, tur and is a pulse with a rich source of proteins.

DESI CHICK PEAS (CICER ARIETINUM)

Desi chick peas is a major grain legume cultivated for its edible seeds and has various names like; Bengal gram/gram/ chana. It is widely used around the world and is a notable source of protein. It can be consumed as a dry pulse, whole, split, or ground as dhal or flour, and in sauces such as hummus or soups.

KABULI CHICK PEAS (CICER ARIETINUM)

Meaning 'from Kabul' in Hindi. (Probably arrived in India from the Eastern Mediterranean via Kabul). Kabuli Chick peas are considered among the most important leguminous crops in the world.

GREEN MUNG BEANS (PHASEOLUS AUREUS)

The mung bean, alternatively known as the green gram, maash, or moong is a protein-rich pulse and is mostly cultivated in East Asia, Southeast Asia & major Indian subcontinents. Mung beans are used as an ingredient in both savoury and sweet dishes.

RED KIDNEY BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

These beans are a high source of dietary fibres and proteins. They are the part of a larger group called “common beans. It is named for its visual resemblance in shape and color to a kidney. In India, they are commonly called as "Rajma".

WHITE PEA BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

White Peas are also known as Navy Peas and are healthy and highly nutritious and rich in vitamins. These beans can be eaten as French beans or as a dried pulse.

YELLOW PEAS (PISUM SATIVUM)

Yellow Peas are part of the legume family. These peas are said to be the very first crop cultivated by the man. They have a mild, slightly sweet flavour and soft, granular texture and are pale yellow in color. They are a rich source of vitamins A, B and C, fibre, protein and potassium.

GREEN PEAS (PISUM SATIVUM)

They are about 1/4 inch in diameter and have a pale green outer skin surrounding a bright green interior and is full of nutrients, fibres & antioxidants.

BLACK EYE BEANS (VIGNA UNGUICULATA)

Black-eyed peas get their name from the characteristic black eye like a dot which is present on it, and it is also known as cowpeas, are a common legume cultivated around the globe.

PINTO BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

The Pinto Beans are beige with reddish-brown specks when dried but become a solid light brown & are known for its creamy texture.

LIGHT SPECKLED BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

Kidney beans are high in proteins and dietary fibres and are very useful in lowering cardiovascular health risks. Light Speckled Kidney Beans are medium-size, oval-shaped beans. They are also known as sugar/ sweet beans in many countries.

RED SPECKLED BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

The Red Speckled beans are known as the sugar bean & belong to the legume family. It is grown for its seed, which is eaten as a vegetable. It is a rich source of soluble fibre.

BLACK BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

BAYO BEANS (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS)

Bayo Beans are brown beans with no markings. Sometimes the name is used as the name for a grouping of beans.
